In addition to the Early Christian Seminar (see below), the Center hosts seminars by Visiting Lecturers (see "Public Lectures" in the main menu to the left), normally in 300 McMahon Hall on Fridays 12.00 - 2.00.  Attendance at these seminars is restricted to members of the CUA community and to invited guests.

Antioch Day 2009

A one-day colloqium, bringing together seven scholars on late antique Antioch, held on March 20.  Principal participants were Raffaella Cribiore, Blake Leyerle, Jaclyn Maxwell, Wendy Mayer, Isabella Sandwell, Christina Shepardson, and Robin Darling Young.  For details click above.

 

Papyri and Ostraka Workshop 2008

The Center joined the University Library and the Department of Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures (the major sponsors) in hosting a workshop on the conservation, cataloguing, and imaging of papyri and ostraka in the ICOR Library.  Dr Monica Blanchard, Curator, and Dr Chrysi Kotsifou, Visiting Associate Curator (and Research Fellow of the Center), were joined by Dr Rodney Ast, Project Coordinator of APIS (Advanced Papyrological Information System), Dr Julia Lougovaya of the Classics Department at Columbia University, and invited colleagues and students.

 

Jerome Day 2006

Six graduate students who had worked on Jerome as a writer during the Fall semester with Dr Catherine Chin delivered papers as part of their course examination.  Dr Catherine Conybeare (Bryn Mawr) commented at intervals during the day.  For details click above.

Leadership and Authority in Late Antiquity

A one-day colloquium held on April 29, 2005.  During the course of the day, participants introduced primary texts and led a discussion on the ways in which they demonstrated the definition and exercise of leadership.  In addition to members of our own faculty, we were delighted to enjoy the company of Lewis Ayres (Emory), Dan Caner (Connecticut), Catherine Conybeare (Bryn Mawr), Ken Holum (Maryland), Wendy Mayer (Australian Catholic University), and Claudia Rapp (Los Angeles).

 

Gibbon Day

A one-day symposium on the work of Edward Gibbon, held on Saturday 16 October 2004.  Guest speakers were Clifford Ando, Patricia Craddock, and John Pocock
